On March 7th, with creativity and a fresh perspective, the 6th and 10th-grade students of SenTia presented unique theatrical performances through the interdisciplinary project report in Literature and History, “Finding Myself in the Legendary Stories of Our Ancestors.” The audience enjoyed the playful and innocent performances of the 6th-grade “young actors” with four works: “The Legend of Saint Giong,” “The Legend of Son Tinh and Thuy Tinh,” “Descendants Of The Dragon And The Fairy,” and “Banh Chung and Banh Day.”
Behind the polished performances of the 6th graders was the support and guidance of the 10th-grade students. By researching the Van Lang – Au Lac civilization, the society, life, and thought of ancient Vietnamese people, the 10th graders were divided into small groups with different tasks to guide the 6th graders:
– Acting as teachers, organizing classes and games to review knowledge of the works
– Acting as skilled directors and screenwriters, guiding the 6th graders in writing scripts, practicing acting, and conveying messages through each character
– Researching and studying to produce props and costumes for the stage
The project is not simply an educational activity but also a journey to connect the younger generation with the nation’s roots, helping students better understand Vietnam’s history and folklore. As a result, students become aware that traditional values are not just part of the past but still carry significant meaning in modern life. Through adapting legendary works into theatrical performances, students not only gain a deeper understanding of the historical context and the meaning of each story but also learn how our ancestors faced challenges, protected the country, and preserved national identity.
Not only does the project help students absorb knowledge about history and literature, such as understanding legends and national culture, but it also helps them develop creativity, critical thinking, teamwork skills, and self-confidence.
